Killing Floor (by Lee Child)

Q. Why did you choose this book?
A. I ordered this one after enjoying another Lee Child book last month.

Q. Did you like the story?
A. Yes. The story is fast-paced and, as I said about the last book I read by this author, I think it would make a great action film.

Q. Were the characters believable?
A. Hmm. I'd say some of them fell just short of believable. A couple of them were more like caricatures than characters, but I still enjoyed them.

Q. Did you like the writing style?
A. Not so much. This was Lee Child's first book, and he relied heavily on short, choppy sentences. Perhaps he chose that style because he wrote the book in first person, and the main character, Jack Reacher, is supposed to be the strong, silent type.

Q. Did you think about the book when you were doing other things?
A. Yes. It kept me coming back.

Q. Was there anything about the book that drove you nuts?
A. The abbreviated sentences took some of the pleasure out of the reading experience. Fortunately, the author decided sometime between this, his first book, and Echo Burning, his fifth book, to intersperse the short sentences with longer, more interesting ones.

Q. How did you feel when you finished the book?
A. As if I'd been on a wild ride.

Q. Will you keep the book to reread later?
A. It'll hurt, but I can part with it.

Q. Any final thoughts about the book?
A. I always enjoy a book that gives me a brief education in addition to a good story, and this one taught me some things I didn't know about this nation's monetary system. That was a nice bonus.
